There are moments that remain in memory long after an event ends. Walking into the gathering, I expected a simple volunteer activity. Instead, I found something much deeper—a place where different generations sat face to face and shared stories that rarely find space in everyday life.
The Shincheonji Volunteer Group organized this gathering during Korea's Patriots and Veterans Month, bringing together war veterans, local seniors, and young volunteers in Incheon. More than a ceremony, it became a time to remember, listen, and reflect.

Remembering Together Through Conversation
Listening Before Speaking
The event was held on June 21 at Eoullim Plaza in Namdong District, Incheon.
A total of 148 war veterans and local senior citizens joined 141 volunteers for the Veterans Appreciation Festival. Rather than simply offering greetings, the program created opportunities for genuine conversations between generations.
One veteran shared memories from the Vietnam War, recalling the uncertainty of life on the battlefield decades ago. More than anything else, the message that remained was simple.
What mattered most was not receiving greater rewards but being remembered for the sacrifices made for the country.
Listening nearby, I realized the atmosphere had quietly changed. The conversations no longer felt like history lessons. They felt personal.
When History Becomes Someone's Life Story
A Different Perspective for Young Volunteers
Many young participants reflected that history had always existed in textbooks, but hearing experiences directly transformed those pages into real human stories.
Several volunteers said they were deeply moved by realizing that people of their own age once experienced war firsthand. They also shared that the ordinary lives enjoyed today were built upon the sacrifices of previous generations.

The Incheon Regional Association of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group announced that it plans to continue volunteer activities and communication programs for national veterans and local senior citizens in the future.

Sometimes, remembering together becomes the greatest form of respect.
