Shincheonji Volunteer Group Resolves Rural Waste Crisis with 1.5 Tons of Agricultural Cleanup in Cheongdo

The Shincheonji Volunteer Group united three regional branches to remove 1.5 tons of agricultural waste in Cheongdo, supporting rural communities facing labor shortages during winter and improving the local environment.

🌸 Supporting Rural Communities Through Action

Rural villages often face a severe shortage of helping hands during the winter season, leaving agricultural waste uncollected and environmental concerns unresolved. The Shincheonji Volunteer Group stepped in to address this long-standing challenge, organizing a large-scale environmental cleanup across Cheongdo’s Hyeon-ri area.

This volunteer effort not only removed waste but also brought meaningful support to residents whose daily lives are affected by labor shortages and aging communities.

Large-Scale Collaboration Across Three Regional Branches

Joint Operation for Environmental Restoration

Three regional alliances of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group—Daegu–Gyeongbuk, Busan–Gyeongnam West, and Busan–Gyeongnam East—joined forces on December 1 to conduct an extensive cleanup effort in the agricultural zones of Hyeon-ri, Punggak-myeon, Cheongdo County.

A total of 300 volunteers participated, mobilizing across a 1.5 km route from Odong Bridge to Seonggok Reservoir.

Clearing 1.5 Tons of Agricultural and Household Waste

Volunteers collected widespread agricultural debris, including:

abandoned vinyl used for farming

pesticide containers

plastic waste

household trash scattered across village areas and farmland

Additionally, cleanup work continued within 7,000 pyeong of orchards and fields, where volunteers assisted farmers with weed removal and heavy lifting, significantly reducing their workload.

Voices from the Community

Residents Express Relief and Gratitude

An 80-year-old resident shared:

“The agricultural waste piling up everywhere has been a burden, but we had no manpower to take care of it. I’m truly grateful.”

The village head added that continuous support from the Shincheonji Volunteer Group has noticeably improved the local environment over time.

Young Volunteers Learn the Realities of Rural Labor

One volunteer in their twenties reflected:

“I didn’t realize how tough farm labor truly is until I worked on site. I want to continue participating in service that genuinely helps the community.”

Lasting Impact on Environmental Sustainability

Creating a Cleaner and Safer Rural Environment

The cleanup not only resolved existing waste problems but also helped protect the area from potential environmental hazards during winter. Accumulated agricultural waste can lead to soil contamination, fire risks, and harm to surrounding ecosystems. The action of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group provided timely prevention and long-term benefits for local residents.

Commitment to Ongoing Seasonal Support

The Daegu–Gyeongbuk Alliance of the volunteer group emphasized that rural environmental protection is essential for community health and safety. The team aims to continue providing seasonal, needs-based volunteer services to support sustainable rural development.

🌈 A Community Strengthened Through Compassionate Action

The volunteer activity addressed a long-standing rural challenge and brought warmth to a community facing labor shortages and environmental strain. The Shincheonji Volunteer Group has once again demonstrated how continuous and practical volunteer efforts can uplift local neighborhoods and create real change.

Their work in Cheongdo stands as a testament to the power of collective action and dedication to environmental stewardship.
