A Quiet Response to a Growing Social Challenge

As aging continues to accelerate, emotional isolation among elderly individuals living alone has become a serious concern. In this changing landscape, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group has stepped forward with practical and community-based solutions.

From the perspective of an observer, what stands out is not just the scale of the issue, but how consistently the Shincheonji Volunteer Group has responded through hands-on volunteer activities. Their approach reflects a growing need for closer, more personal forms of care within local communities.

Expanding Community-Based Elderly Care Activities

Consistent Visits and Emotional Support

According to recent data, the number of elderly individuals living alone continues to rise, highlighting the urgency of social care. In response, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group’s Seoul and southern Gyeonggi regional alliance expanded customized volunteer services earlier this year.

From January to March, volunteers conducted weekly visits to senior centers and individual households, supporting more than 25 elderly individuals each week. These visits focused on emotional connection, including conversations and companionship, helping reduce feelings of isolation.

In addition, sharing seasonal foods such as traditional meals contributed to improving emotional stability and daily satisfaction.

Practical Support Extending Into Daily Life

Personalized Care and Home Services

The Shincheonji Volunteer Group has extended its support beyond simple visits.

Through home visits, volunteers provided services such as massage and basic grooming assistance. For elderly individuals with limited mobility, one-on-one accompaniment support was offered to ease the burden of going out.

Housing improvement efforts were also carried out to create safer living environments. These included replacing wallpaper and flooring, installing lighting, and adding safety handles for elderly residents living in older homes.

Seasonal Support and Integrated Welfare Programs

Responding to Changing Needs Throughout the Year

The Shincheonji Volunteer Group also addressed seasonal challenges faced by vulnerable elderly individuals.

During the summer, volunteers provided bottled water and cooling supplies to help cope with heatwaves. In winter, support included briquettes and heating supplies to ensure warmth and safety.

In collaboration with local welfare institutions, additional services such as health check-up connections, dementia prevention programs, and cultural experience activities were also provided.

This approach goes beyond basic assistance, building an integrated care system that supports overall quality of life.

A Community Effort That Continues

The activities of the Shincheonji Volunteer Group show how community-centered volunteer work can respond to growing social challenges.

Rather than one-time support, these efforts reflect a continuous commitment to improving the lives of elderly individuals living alone.
