Shincheonji Church of Jesus Peter Tribe held heartfelt Parents’ Day events across eight churches, sharing gratitude, carnations, and performances with senior members.
There was something unusually warm in the air the moment I stepped into the hall prepared by the churches of the Shincheonji Church of Jesus Peter Tribe. It was not simply because of the bright carnations carefully pinned onto jackets or the cheerful greetings exchanged between generations. It felt more like a quiet reminder of how deeply gratitude can move people when it is expressed sincerely.
From May 6 to 10, eight churches belonging to the Peter Tribe — Gwangju, Mokpo, Yeosu, Suncheon, Songha, Gwangyang, Haenam, and Naju — held special Parents’ Day events for advisory group members who had faithfully supported the church community for many years. The atmosphere throughout the event felt less like a formal ceremony and more like a heartfelt family gathering.
A Day Filled With Gratitude and Respect
Warm Greetings Welcomed Senior Members
As attendees entered the venue, volunteers welcomed them with flowers and carnations. Banners placed throughout the halls carried messages filled with affection and respect, including phrases expressing gratitude for years of dedication, prayer, and love.
One of the first things that stood out to me was how naturally younger members approached the elderly attendees. There was no awkward distance. Some helped them walk comfortably to their seats, while others carefully adjusted flowers on their clothing. The small gestures quietly revealed the purpose of the event far better than any announcement could.
The Shincheonji Church of Jesus community described the gathering as an opportunity to reflect on the devotion of senior members who had protected the church for many years while practicing the values of filial respect and service.
Messages That Left a Deep Impression
Videos and Letters Brought Tears and Smiles
At the Gwangju church, a special appreciation video was shown during the event. Youth members, adult members, and women’s groups shared messages about the dedication shown by senior members through worship services, volunteer work, and Bible study.
One testimony from a young church member remained especially memorable. The speaker reflected on watching elderly members continue participating faithfully in church responsibilities and Bible study despite their age. Listening to those words, the audience quietly nodded as if many shared the same feeling of reflection.
At the Gwangyang church, a handwritten letter from a granddaughter to her grandmother created another emotional moment. The letter expressed gratitude toward the grandmother who had lovingly raised her while her parents worked. It also included a promise to now pray for her grandmother just as her grandmother had prayed for her for years.
The room became noticeably quieter during the reading. Some attendees lowered their heads, while others gently wiped tears from their eyes.
Why the Event Felt Meaningful
Sharing Warmth Beyond Generations
Many elderly attendees openly shared how comforting the gathering felt. One member in her seventies said that opportunities to meet and talk with others become fewer with age, making the time together feel especially precious. Another attendee in her eighties expressed gratitude that everyone — from young children to adult members — personally prepared the event with sincerity and respect.
When the song “Grace of Parents” was sung together, the atmosphere changed again. Voices slowly filled the hall, and several attendees appeared deeply moved by the lyrics and the shared moment.
The leader of the Peter Tribe expressed appreciation for advisory members, describing them as dependable pillars of the church community and offering encouragement for their continued health and peace.
For me, what remained after the event was not simply the program itself, but the atmosphere created by people sincerely trying to honor one another. In a time when many relationships often feel distant or hurried, the gathering quietly reminded attendees of the importance of gratitude, respect, and shared faith.
Reflections After Attending the Event
A Reminder About Small Acts of Care
Walking out of the venue, I found myself thinking less about the size of the event and more about the small moments that filled it. The carnations, the letters, the applause, the songs, and even the conversations between generations all carried the same message.
Sometimes warmth is expressed not through something grand, but through remembering and appreciating the people who stayed beside us for many years.
