Shincheonji Volunteer Group Hanam Branch concludes a two-year Mugunghwa donation and awareness campaign, sharing Korea’s national flower with local communities.
Shincheonji Volunteer Group Hanam Branch has concluded its two-year community initiative, “Mugunghwa Bloom,” a donation and awareness campaign designed to restore everyday familiarity with Korea’s national flower, the Mugunghwa.
Rather than a one-time event, the campaign grew quietly and steadily—rooted in the belief that meaningful volunteering begins by noticing what has slowly faded from daily life.
Why Mugunghwa Needed Attention Again
Mugunghwa is widely recognized as Korea’s national flower, yet opportunities to encounter it in everyday spaces have become rare.
According to a 2022 Korea Forest Service survey, Mugunghwa ranked 8th in public preference for flowering trees—revealing a gap between symbolic importance and lived experience.
Shincheonji Volunteer Group Hanam Branch began asking a simple question:
What if people could meet Mugunghwa not in textbooks, but in their neighborhoods?
From Awareness to Hands-On Experience
Public Campaign Booths and Citizen Participation
Beginning in 2025, the Hanam Branch expanded its campaign through public engagement.
At Misa Station Square and various local festivals, volunteers operated interactive booths featuring:
Mugunghwa awareness surveys
OX quizzes about the national flower
Free distribution of Mugunghwa saplings
These moments turned passing curiosity into small acts of connection.
Education Through Community Facilities
The campaign also reached local children’s centers and senior facilities, where volunteers conducted:
Introductory lessons on Mugunghwa
Information on local Mugunghwa distribution
Hands-on pot-planting experiences
Learning became tangible when participants placed soil around roots with their own hands.
Remembering Service and Sacrifice
In a meaningful extension of the campaign, Shincheonji Volunteer Group Hanam Branch visited a farm operated by the Cheongjeong Hanam Senior Association, formed by members of the Korean Veterans Association.
There, volunteers donated and planted Mugunghwa trees symbolizing honor and remembrance, expressing gratitude to those who served the nation.
Two Years, Measured in Consistency
Over the past two years, the campaign recorded:
27 total activities
239 cumulative participants
556 volunteer hours
359 Mugunghwa saplings donated
Numbers tell only part of the story, but they reflect sustained effort rather than momentary attention.
Looking Ahead: Letting Mugunghwa Take Root
The Hanam Branch plans to continue the campaign next year, expanding sapling donations to public institutions where Mugunghwa plantings are limited, while maintaining citizen-focused outreach.
“We hope Mugunghwa becomes a flower people encounter naturally in everyday life,”
a Hanam Branch representative said.
Through quiet persistence, Shincheonji Volunteer Group continues to turn national symbolism into lived presence.
