The Shincheonji Volunteer Group Daegu–Gyeongbuk Union participated in Gyeongju’s citywide cleanup ahead of the APEC Summit, collecting 200 liters of waste and boosting the city’s welcoming atmosphere.
As Gyeongju speeds up city maintenance ahead of the upcoming APEC Summit, citizen volunteer groups are joining hands to improve the city’s appearance. Among them, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group is playing a key role through hands-on cleanup efforts that enhance Gyeongju’s image as a welcoming host city.
1. Large-Scale Cleanup at Hwangseong Park
On the 22nd, the Shincheonji Volunteer Group Daegu–Gyeongbuk Union took part in the “APEC Citizen Volunteer Clean-Up Day,” the second event of its kind.
Approximately 50 volunteers participated and collected around 200 liters of household waste in the Hwangseong Park area, helping to refresh key public spaces before international visitors arrive.
This environmental cleanup was a joint program organized by the Gyeongju Volunteer Center, strategically scheduled one week before the APEC Summit.
2. Gyeongju’s Citywide Push for A Welcoming Environment
With the summit expected to bring national leaders and a surge of international visitors, Gyeongju City is expanding public-participation cleaning programs. Major parks and urban spaces are being maintained through cooperative efforts between local volunteers and municipal agencies.
3. Voices From the Volunteers
One participant shared,
“I joined because I want visitors from around the world to have a great first impression of Gyeongju. Cleaning the environment is more than simple maintenance—it shapes the city’s identity.”
A representative of the Daegu–Gyeongbuk Union added,
“It was meaningful to contribute to Gyeongju’s environment ahead of such a major international event. We will continue serving the community and warmly welcoming visitors during the APEC summit.”
Through proactive cleanup activities led by the Shincheonji Volunteer Group, Gyeongju is creating a fresh, welcoming atmosphere for global guests. As the city prepares for an international event of great significance, collaborative volunteer work continues to strengthen local pride and community spirit.
